I so liked Brandon Sanderson’s start on completing Robert Jordan’s epic Wheel of Time saga I’ve just read his books Elantris and then this Mistborn trilogy (which if you wanted to read something with a female hero in would be perfect in the fantasy genre).
And fascinating points on God, gods, religion, mythology and the nature of belief. Other than Joseph Campbell these books have really brought home to me how much can be encoded in story, which of course draws in the person reading making them want to read and delivers the message encoded in the story.
Truly artful.
